dc.descriptionIn this article, we analyze the characteristics of the witches from the New Spain, who in fact belonged to the “genre of witches from Spain”, unlike those of Mesoamerican tradition. Based on the record of the proceedings against Josefa Ramos on charges of sorcery and witchcraft, we study, on the one hand, the representation of the witch in the colonial imaginary, which was a replica of the representation known in Europe; on the other, the status that acquired the person considered as such and the actions and supernatural powers that were attributed to her. Josefa Ramos’ story shows how the accused, at least at a discursive level, took the assigned roll and started to act as a witch; therefore, it is considered that as a result of the ideas inculcated by the friars, the accused of witchcraft began to reproduce similar realities to those registered in Europe.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo analiza las características de las brujas novohispanas que eran “del género de las de España”, a diferencia de las de raigambre mesoamericana. Con base en el expediente del proceso contra Josefa Ramos por los delitos de hechicería y brujería se estudia, por una parte, la representación de la bruja en el imaginario colonial, que fue una réplica de la conocida en Europa; por otra, cómo se construía socialmente su figura, el estatus que adquiría y cuáles eran las acciones y poderes sobrenaturales que se le atribuían. El caso de “la Chuparratones” muestra cómo la acusada, cuando menos en el nivel discursivo, llegaba a meterse en el papel que le habían forjado y actuar como tal; por tanto, se considera que, debido a las ideas que le habían inculcado los religiosos, comenzó a recrear realidades muy parecidas a las que se registraron en el continente europeo.es-ES
